Women's soccer falls to Penn, 3-0, in non-conference match

BOX SCORE

PHILADELPHIA (Oct. 2, 2011)
– The Saint Francis women's soccer team ran into a stiff test in its non-conference finale on Sunday afternoon, falling to the Penn Quakers, 3-0, at Rhodes Field.

Playing without its offensive leader, All-Northeast Conference forward Tesa McKibben (Cogan Station, Pa./Montoursville), the Red Flash struggled to get their footing, managing only three shots while Penn racked up 29.  Sophomore Barbara Maros de Carvalho (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Sagrado Coraco de Jesus) managed SFU's lone shot on goal.

The Quakers' Megan York enjoyed a two-goal day, including the eventual game-winner, which came in the 23rd minute as the result of a corner kick.  York added an insurance goal nearly 40 minutes into the second half after wearing down the Flash defense.

The final score of the afternoon came in the 89th minute off the toe of Callan Para

Goalkeeper Brianna Butcher (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) was saddled with the loss as Saint Francis fell to 6-5-0.

At 8-2, Penn continued its strong start and won its ninth-straight home match.

Saint Francis returns to action on Friday when it visits Central Connecticut State (3-3-4; 0-1-2 NEC).  The Blue Devils fell to Fairleigh Dickinson, 2-0, on Sunday.
