FARMVILLE, Va. (March 3, 2011) – Junior
Sheri Fort (Sicklerville, N.J./Washington Twp) drew first blood for Saint Francis University, but Longwood scored the game's next four goals en route to a 10-5 victory over the visiting Red Flash in women's lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon.
Down, 4-1, at the intermission, Saint Francis'
Kate Simmons (Delran, N.J./Delran) scored the first goal of the second half to pull within two scores. The Lancers, once again, responded with a four-goal outburst, three of which were fired by Jess Rudloff.
Kara Ledgerwood (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) and Simmons recorded SFU's only consecutive goals of the game to make the score 8-4, before both offenses fell quiet over the next seven minutes.
Longwood's Duan Wright ended the drought with a tally at the 3:23 mark to re-up the margin to five goals.
SFU's
Catherine Helming (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) flipped in an unassisted shot with 21 seconds to play before the Lancers responded with the game's final marker four seconds before the horn sounded.
Longwood out-shot the Flash 33-to-17 on the afternoon, causing a busy day for SFU goalie
Danielle Pokusa (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson), who racked up 15 saves.
Saint Francis returns to action on Friday when it visits Saint Joseph's for a noon contest.
