PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (March 6, 2011) – Sophomore Danielle Conwell (Roxbury, N.J./Roxbury) registered her second two-goal game of the season, but it wasn't enough as the Saint Francis lacrosse team fell, 10-6, to Saint Joseph's at Finnesey Field on Sunday afternoon.
For the second game in a row, the Red Flash jumped out to an early lead, this time on an unassisted goal by Rachel Larson. The Hawks countered with three-straight scores to storm out to a 3-1 edge.
Saint Francis' Sheri Fort (Sicklerville, N.J./Washington Twp) and Conwell scored the game's next two goals, however, to enter the half with a 3-3 tie. Fort also racked up a game-high five ground balls in the contest.
The Hawks got out to a fast start in the second half, scoring four of the period's first five tallies. SFU was outscored 7-3 in the half.
Saint Francis was able to pull within two (7-5) on a Kate Simmons (Delran, N.J./Delran) marker with 19:16 to play, but SHU fired three of the game's next four goals to hold off the Red & White.
Four Saint Joseph's players notched multi-goal games, but the Hawks barely outshot the Flash, 22-to-19.
Senior goalie Danielle Pokusa (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) made seven saves in a complete-game effort.
SFU returns to action on Wednesday when it visits Bucknell for a 4 p.m. match.
