FIRST DAY RESULT
BALTIMORE, Md. (Nov. 2, 2012) – The Saint Francis U swimming team rode five top-three finishes to a lead over two teams in the first day of the Thomas Murphy Invitational hosted by Loyola University. The Red Flash will enter the second day of competition leading the host Greyhounds, 70.00-34.00, and Marywood University, 78.00-26.00. Johns Hopkins holds a slim, 47.00-44.00, versus the Flash.
Freshman
Danyel Johnson (Dansville, N.Y./Dansville) continued her strong start with a win in the 50 freestyle and helping the 400 medley relay entry to a second-place finish. Johnson swam a 24.42 in the 50 free then collaborated with
Elise Löfgren (Molnlycke, Sweden/Hulebacks),
Libby Francis (Dundee, Scotland/Grove Academy) and
Alicia Ford (Whitney Point, N.Y./Whitney Point) for a time of 4:00.74 in the 400 medley relay.
Ford and Lofgren also notched top three finishes in individual events. Lofgren took third in the 200 IM (2:13.89) and Ford also tabbed bronze in the 50 free (24.59).
The 800 free relay team registered a second place time of 7:50.46.
Katrina Wilhite (Sparks, Nev./Edward C. Reed),
Sara Dieterich (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot),
Haley Fournier (Ave Maria, Fla./Palmetto Ridge) and Gabri Pierre made up the successful combination.
Saint Francis will return to the pool on Saturday for the second, and final, day of the Thomas Murphy Invitational. Events are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., and then again at 3 p.m.
