LORETTO, Pa. (March 17, 2012) – A string of five consecutive goals during an eight-minute span in the second half lifted the Liberty Lady Flames to a, 13-9, victory over Saint Francis University in women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Flash and Lady Flames dueled to a, 7-7, draw after the first period and traded a pair of goals to open the second half before Liberty went on its game-clinching run.
Three players did all the scoring for the Flash, led by
Casey Burk (Moorestown, N.J./Delran), who fired four goals.
Danielle Conwell (Roxbury, N.J./Roxbury) stayed hot to chip in a hat trick and
Catherine Helming (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) tallied two goals. Conwell assisted on the first three of Burk's goals to rack up a game-high seven points. Her four helpers on the afternoon tie for the second-most in program history.
For Liberty, Kristin Crowley led the way with five goals. Morgan Becker and Amber Nichols each notched a pair of lamp-lighters.
Despite the setback, SFU maintained a 24-to-21 edge in shots on the afternoon and equaled the Lady Flames by tallying 13 successful clears in 17 attempts. The Red Flash also turned the ball over four fewer times than Liberty.
Saint Francis closed out its four-game home stand on Tuesday when it welcomes Duquesne for a 7 p.m. contest.
