Four Red Flash Lacrosse Players Honored by IWLCA

GRAND LAKE, Co. (August 23, 2012) – The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches' Association (IWLCA) announced its Academic Honor Roll for 2012, this included four players from Saint Francis University.
 
Senior defender Katie Dacanay (Sterling, Va./Potomac Falls) started all 17 games as a senior in 2012, she scooped up 27 ground balls and had four draw controls. Dacanay was a dual major in History Secondary Education and Mathematics while at Saint Francis.
 
Senior defender/goalie Emily Patterson (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run) logged 75 minutes between the pipes for the Red Flash during her senior season; she did not record a decision in 2012 but had eight saves on the season. Patterson majored in Political Science/Pre-Law (World Languages) while at Saint Francis.
 
Also honored, was junior defender Alexa Joanow (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley), she started all 17 games for the red and white, recorded 10 ground balls and had one shot on goal in 2012. Joanow is a Physician's Assistant major at SFU.
 
Junior defender Lauren Bezmen (Baldwin, N.Y./Sacred Heart) was the fourth player on the list for SFU, she played in 14 contests and started in four. Bezman racked up nine ground balls and eight draw controls for the Red Flash in 2012. She is currently an Elementary Education major at SFU. 
 
The IWLCA honored 173 student-athletes from 56 institutions for the 2012 All-Academic squad. All student-athletes were nominated by their schools and have achieved at least junior status academically.
