Gregg Gebhard named
Danielle Conwell (Roxbury, N.J./Roxbury),
Alexa Joanow (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley),
Rachel Larson (Corning, N.Y./Corning East),
Emily Patterson (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run) and
Megan Ross (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) captains for the upcoming 2013 season.
"I am pleased to announce Dani, Lex, Rachel, Emily and Meg as our captains for the 2013 season,” Gebhard said. “Each are very committed to helping us continue to grow the program into a contender in the Northeast Conference. They are well respected by their teammates and the coaching staff. They do the right things on and off the field and are great role models for our younger players.”
Conwell led SFU last season in goals, assists and points while also posting 27 ground balls, 21 draw controls and eight caused turnovers. Joanow played and started in all 17 games last season racking up 10 ground balls and caused seven turnovers. Larson played in all 17 games last season while recording seven starts and posting five goals and three assists. Patterson saw action in six games in the net for the Red Flash making eight saves. Ross started all 17 games last season for SFU and posted 12 goals on 18 shots for a team-high 66.7 shooting percentage among players with more than one shot.
The Red Flash open the season Saturday Feb. 16 on the road against Duquesne in Pittsburgh with the contest set for a 2 p.m. start.
