BOX SCORE LYNCHBURG, Va. (March 7, 2013) – The Saint Francis U women's lacrosse team battled back from five down, but fell to the Liberty Flames on Monday, 9-5.
The Flames (3-2) struck first, but the Red Flash (2-3) followed with two quick goals from
Olivia Pittman (Annapolis, Md./Saint Mary's) and
Megan Ross (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas).
Liberty closed out the half on a 5-0 scoring streak and took a 6-2 lead into the locker room.
Katie Schaaf (Ellicott City, Md./Hebron) scored for SFU to open the second half, she put one past the goalie at the 23:38 mark of the period.
The Flames scored twice more to take an 8-3 lead with 15:50 to play.
Christina Fini (Huntington, N.Y./Smithtown East) scored with 11 minutes to play and Schaaf put another one in the back of the net with just over two minutes to go to narrow the margin to three.
Liberty scored their ninth goal with just eight seconds left. Kimberly Peterson earned her first start of the season between the pipes for SFU, the senior logged nine saves in the game.
Saint Francis returns to Sweet Loretto to face Campbell Thursday, March 14 at 7 p.m.
