Flash Bested by Conference Leading Monmouth

BOX SCORE LORETTO, Pa. (April 7, 2013) – The Saint Francis U women's lacrosse team lost to conference leading Monmouth, 15-8, on Sunday afternoon.

The Red Flash (4-9, 1-5) had the game tied at four at halftime, but surrendered 11 second half goals from the Hawks (7-6, 5-0).

Olivia Pittman (Annapolis, Md./Saint Mary's) scored first to put Saint Francis on the board at the 25 minute mark of the first half. Monmouth then scored four unanswered goals to give the Hawks a 4-1 lead with just over 10 minutes to play.

Lindsay Ingram (Stewartstown, Pa./York Catholic) scored on a nice feed from Katie Schaaf (Ellicott City, Md./Hebron) to end the scoring drought for SFU. Rachel Larson (Corning, N.Y./Corning East) then scored her 18th of the season at the 5:15 mark and Monmouth was forced to take a timeout. Pittman scored her second goal of the afternoon with just over four minutes to play in the half to tie the game at four.

Coming out of the break, the Flash took another lead as Larson scored on a man-up opportunity. Monmouth scored two quick goals and then Schaaf scored to tie the game at six at the 15:28 mark.

With under 10 minutes to play, the Hawks scored seven unanswered goals and put the game out of reach. Larson and Rebecca Meyer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) scored late in the game for SFU to narrow the deficit to seven.

Rachel Larson (Corning, N.Y./Corning East) finished with a hat trick for the Flash, while Lindsay Ingram (Stewartstown, Pa./York Catholic) finished with 10 shots. Pariss Townsend-Griffin (Silver Spring, Md./Elizabeth Seton) posted a team-high three ground balls and caused turnovers.

Savannah Shores (Trappe, Md./Easton) took the loss in net, the freshman earned six saves in the contest.

Saint Francis will conclude its home schedule on Friday as in-state rival Robert Morris comes to Sweet Loretto, opening draw is scheduled for 3 p.m.
