BOX SCORE HUNTINGTON, W. Va. – (Sept. 13, 2013) The Saint Francis U men's soccer team continues its winning ways at the Marshall Invitational ousting Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne 3-1.
Freshman
Matt Loughnane (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Trafford) netted the game-winner for the Red Flash off a hotshot into the top right corner of the Mastodon's goal.
"Today we were good in the moments that mattered "said Head Coach
Michael Casper. I didn't think we were as sharp defensively as I like to be, but we finished out chances and came away with a good win. We need to be much tighter and press better to really set the tone defensively.
Senior
Nick Kolarac (Pittsburgh, Pa./West Allegheny) gave Saint Francis a 1-0 lead off a lob shot from outside the box, past Mastodon goalie Raphael Kotzock. Midfielder
Christian Harrington (Warren, Pa./Warren Area) was credited with the assist.
IPFW's goal came off an impressive slicing shot by Jacob Murphy, tying the game 1-1.
Forward
Ty Geesey (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) scored Saint Francis's third goal of the game off a perfectly timed cross from Kolarac giving the Red and White a 3-1 advantage over IPFW.
Keeper
Daniel Valcicak (Herndon, Va./Gonzaga College) marked four saves in the game including his second win of the season. IPFW held a slight advantage 13-10 in shots taken and had five corner kicks to SFU's one.
Saint Francis matches up against Oakland University Sunday at 12:30 p.m. to conclude the Marshall Invitational.
