LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – The Saint Francis swimming team defeated Siena, 158-121, Saturday afternoon. The Red Flash claimed victories in 11 of the 12 events in which it competed for points.
The winning day started immediately as the team of
Katrina Wilhite (Sparks, Nev./Edward C. Reed), Elise Lofgren,
Libby Francis (Dundee, Scotland/Grove Academy) and
Catherine Rogers (Nokesville, Va./Seton School) won the 400-yard medley relay in 4:03.08. They edged out teammates
Rebecca Peer (Chelsea, Quebec/Philemon Wright),
Katelynn Happney (Chesterfield, Va./Manchester ),
Paige McLean (Bolton, Ontario/St. Michael Catholic Secondary) and
Jessica Reilly (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Upper St. Clair). That crew came in second place in a time of 4:16.54.
Wilhite added a win in the 200-yard backstroke (2:10.21) and a second place in the 200 freestyle. Lofgren had victories in the 50-yard breaststroke (33:09) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:11.43). Francis claimed first in the 200 butterfly in 2:12.76, while Rogers finished second to
Danyel Johnson (Dansville, N.Y./Dansville) in both the 50 freestyle and the 50 butterfly.
Johnson had a big day, posting three victories. Aside from the wins in the 50 free (24.74) and 50 fly (26.91), she also won the 50 backstroke in 28.24. Teammate
Sara Dieterich (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) finished second to Johnson in that race while also placing second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:12.25). Peer finished third in the 200 back, making it a 1-2-3 finish for Red Flash swimmers in that event. SFU also took the top three spots in the 200 freestyle. McLean won the event in 2:00.71, just ahead of Wilhite. Reilly placed third.
Mary-Margaret Folz won the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:51.19) and placed third in the 200-yard butterfly.
Meghan Cotugno (Cape Coral, Fla./Cape Coral) won the 100-yard freestyle in 56.03, and
Gabrielle Pierre (Valencia, Pa./Mars) added a third place finish in the 500 free.
