BOX SCORE LORETTO, Pa. (Oct. 17, 2014) – With less than four minutes to play, Richmond's Emma Johansson scored the lone goal in the Spiders' 1-0 Atlantic 10 over Saint Francis U on Friday afternoon.
It was the first loss for the Red Flash (10-2, 3-2) on its home turf in 2014, it had been 6-0 prior to this contest.
Richmond scored the late goal as a pass from Kasey Gilbride found an open Johansson after SFU goalkeeper
Samantha Zeiders (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) dove in an attempt to stop the pass. The shot was the Spiders (9-6, 5-1) only of the second period, and one of just three for the entire game.
Saint Francis won the battle in shots 11-3 and put up seven of them in the second frame. The Red Flash also led in penalty corners by a margin of 8-3.
Autumn Pellman (Millerstown, Pa./Greenwood) led the Flash with four shots, three of which were on goal, while
Selena Adamshick (Harveys Lake, Pa./Lake-Lehman) fired three, and
Carissa Makea (Auckland, New Zealand/Rosehill College) added two.
Elizabeth Momeyer (Harrison City, Pa./Penn Trafford) and
Mackenzie Wirth (Thompsontown, Pa./Greenwood) each also added a shot during the game.
Saint Francis plays its final home game on Sunday as Virginia Commonwealth comes to Loretto for senior day. The match-up is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
