BOX SCORE LORETTO, Pa. (Oct. 19, 2014) - The Saint Francis University field hockey team needed just one goal to take down Virginia Commonwealth on senior day Sunday afternoon at DeGol Field.
It was SFU's final home game in 2014, the Red Flash (11-2, 4-2) finished 7-1 on its home turf this season. Saint Francis led the battle in shots against the Rams (3-11, 1-5) by a margin of 14-4, it also led the penalty corner tally at 9-1.
It was
Selena Adamshick (Harveys Lake, Pa./Lake-Lehman) who scored 12 minutes in when she dribbled past defenders on the right side and put it past VCU's goalkeeper to put SFU up 1-0. The Red Flash tallied eight more shots in the first period.
Saint Francis maintained possession for the majority of the second period as well, but was tested during a late flurry of shots from the Rams' Alexis Albright.
Samantha Zeiders (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) made four saves in the win.
Autumn Pellman (Millerstown, Pa./Greenwood) and Adamshick each totaled four shots in the game for Saint Francis.
Carissa Makea (Auckland, New Zealand/Rosehill College) posted three shots, while
Elizabeth Momeyer (Harrison City, Pa./Penn Trafford) and
Mackenzie Wirth (Thompsontown, Pa./Greenwood) each added one.
Saint Francis returns to action on Friday when it visits Davidson for a 5:30 p.m. match-up.
