BOX SCORE BOONE, N.C. (Oct. 26, 2014) – Behind a four-goal effort from
Autumn Pellman (Millerstown, Pa./Greenwood), the Saint Francis University field hockey team beat Appalachian State 5-0, on Sunday afternoon, setting a new program record for wins in a season with 13.
The Red Flash (13-2) scored three goals in the opening period and only surrendered two Mountaineers (4-13) shots in the contest. SFU beat its program record from 2012 when it had 12 wins in a season.
Pellman scored her first of the day seven minutes in off a pass from
Nikki Snyder (Harveys Lake, Pa./Lake-Lehman). Her next tally came 20 minutes later, this time off a pass from
Selena Adamshick (Harveys Lake, Pa./Lake-Lehman) and SFU led 2-0. Adamshick scored one of her own two minutes after and the Flash took the 3-0 lead into halftime.
Pellman scored her third two minutes into the second frame with Admshick once again tallying the helper. She scored her fourth goal of the afternoon at the 56 minute mark and
Rachel Behne (Clifton, Va./Centerville) picked up the assist.
Saint Francis totaled nine shots, scoring on five.
Carissa Makea (Auckland, New Zealand/Rosehill College) also posted two shots in the game.
Samantha Zeiders (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) earned the win while registering two saves in the combined shutout. Freshman
Ingrid Ulrich (Calgary, Alberta, Canada/Central Memorial) logged nearly six minutes of playing time in the game.
Saint Francis wraps up its 2014 regular season as it travels to Lock Haven for a 1 p.m. match-up on Saturday.
