BOX SCORE LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (Nov. 1, 2014) – The Saint Francis University field hockey team won its fourth straight contest and second consecutive over Lock Haven after a double-overtime, 2-1, thrilling victory on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Flash (14-2, 6-2) finishes the regular season setting records in wins with 14 and Atlantic 10 Conference wins with six. With the win over the Eagles (12-6, 6-2), SFU has clinched at least the third seed in the A-10 Postseason Tournament, which commences on Friday in Richmond, Virginia. Richmond faces Davidson tomorrow to determine the final seeding's for the four-team tournament.
It was Lock Haven who got on the scoreboard first after a deflected shot made it past Saint Francis goalkeeper
Samantha Zeiders (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) just three minutes before the halftime break. The Eagles held the advantage in shots after one period of play, 4-2.
Selena Adamshick (Harveys Lake, Pa./Lake-Lehman) scored the equalizer for Saint Francis U eight minutes later after a penalty corner attempt, with assists going to
Carissa Makea (Auckland, New Zealand/Rosehill College) and
Nikki Snyder (Harveys Lake, Pa./Lake-Lehman). SFU controlled the majority of the second frame firing nine shots and earning seven penalty corners forcing six saves by Lock Haven goalkeeper Elaina White.
The Red Flash directed the first overtime period to its advantage posting another six shots compared to zero for the Eagles, as well as, five penalty corners to LHU's zero.
Just over five minutes into the second overtime frame,
Autumn Pellman (Millerstown, Pa./Greenwood) trickled one by White off a feed from Adamshick and SFU took the game.
Adamshick and Pellman each registered six shots in the game, while Makea added four. Snyder and
Elizabeth Momeyer (Harrison City, Pa./Penn Trafford) also tallied one shot apiece. Zeiders finished with five saves in net.
