STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - The Saint Francis swimming team won three individual events and a relay at Wagner on Friday night, but the Seahawks took the dual meet, 119-81. Freshman Katie Lafferty (Bremen, Ind./Bremen) had two of the individual victories for the Red Flash.
She won the 100-yard freestyle in 53.66 and also took the 200-yard freestyle in 1:55.87. Lafferty was also part of the Flash's relay winner, joining with Jessica Reilly (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Upper St. Clair), Alicia Tiberino (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) and Catherine Rogers (Nokesville, Va./Seton School) to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:40.76. Rogers added a third place spot in the 200-yard IM (2:16.23).
Freshman Emma Karell (Norrtalge, Sweden/Taby Swim Club) took the other victory for SFU, winning the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:25.45. Karell also finished second in the 200 butterfly in 2:11.48. She also finished second in the 200-yard medley relay with Sara Dieterich (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot), Mary Kish (Glendale, Ariz./Bourgade Catholic) and Jessica Reilly (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Upper St. Clair) in 1:53.93. Kish had a second place behind Karell in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:27.37), while Reilly was second in the 50 freestyle in 25.20.
The Flash continues its Big Apple swing on Saturday at St. Francis Brooklyn while also competing against Rowan.
