NEW YORK (Feb. 11, 2014)
– Saint Francis U posted its first shutout of the season as it opened Northeast Conference play with a 7-0 win over St. Francis Brooklyn on Friday, but dropped a 5-2 decision at Drexel Sunday to polish off a 1-1 week.

The split pushed the Red Flash's record to 3-4 on the season.

"It was great for the team to pick up their first conference win of the season and I was pleased with their focus and intensity throughout the match,' said SFU coach Rob Castille "Against Drexel, the guys fought hard but just came up short. Drexel is a good team and I hope the guys take away a lot from this match and realize that they can play with these strong teams."

Against the Terriers only Washi Gervias and Rodrigo Tico (Guadalajara, Mexico/Colegio de Bachilleres) faced stiff opposition at the Nos. 1 and 2 singles positions. While the two pulled out their wins with third-set tiebreakers, the balance of the Frankie lineup surrendered just one point to sweep singles play.

At the No. 4 spot, Chris Jimenez (Bayside, N.Y./St. Francis Preparatory) sealed the team victory with a, 6-0, 6-0, win.

In Sunday's setback at Drexel, Eli Cerdan (Bloomfield, N.J. /Saint Mary High School) and Plamen Avuski (Plovdiv, Bulgaria /Math High School ) picked up wins at the Nos. 3 and 6 positions, respectively.

Saint Francis is back on the road for two games next weekend.  The Flash visits Colgate on Saturday (2 p.m.) and Saint Peter's on Sunday (11 a.m.)
