Second half outburst pushes UNLV past SFU

BOX SCORE LAS VEGAS (August 31, 2014) – The Saint Francis U women's soccer team fell, 3-0, to UNLV Sunday morning to close-out its weekend at the UNLV Nike Invitational.

After a scoreless first half, the Rebels team speed began to loom large.  While UNLV was able to maintain possession for most of the opening frame, the Saint Francis defense was successful in interrupting the Rebels' offensive system and limiting its legitimate scoring opportunities.

The Rebels held a 4-1 edge in shots on goal at the intermission.

UNLV's Jodi Barber opened the scoring in the 52 minute with her second goal of the season.  Barber tapped the ball past SFU goalkeeper Romina Kunze (Frankfurt, Germany/Carl-von-Weinberg-Schule) after a header attempt by Denali Murnan was deflected.

Dakota Blazak and Jordan Magnin added insurance scores down the stretch.  Magnin's marker was via a penalty kick.  UNLV came up empty on a second penalty kick opportunity in the closing period.

Kunze ended the game with 11 saves.  Senior forward Mackenzie Walter (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) paced the Red Flash offense with three shots, two of which were on goal.

With temperatures soaring into triple digits, Saint Francis was also able to tap into its depth more than in its previous three outings.  Of the 23 players on the roster, 17 made it into the match on Sunday to contribute to the effort.

Saint Francis will return to action on Friday when it visits Wright State.
