BOX SCORE LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. (Sept. 1, 2014) - The Saint Francis University field hockey team came from behind to beat Rider, 3-2 in overtime, for the first time in program history on Monday afternoon.
It was the
Nikki Snyder (Harveys Lake, Pa./Lake-Lehman) and
Autumn Pellman (Millerstown, Pa./Greenwood) combination that has worked so well for the Red Flash (2-0) over the past two seasons that struck twice today, one of which was the game winning goal in overtime.
The Broncs (1-1) scored first off a penalty stroke as Dezarae Fillmyer tallied one 25 minutes in to take the first lead of the contest. Pellman scored her first off a feed from Snyder on the penalty corner at the 48 minute mark of the second half and the game was tied at one.
Fillmyer scored again off another penalty stroke for Rider at the 54 minute mark and the Broncs regained the 2-1 advantage.
Selena Adamshick (Harveys Lake, Pa./Lake-Lehman) then notched her first goal of the season with just over three minutes to play in regulation, off a penalty corner pass from Snyder and the game would go to overtime.
Pellman scored her second of the day and fifth of the Labor Day Weekend off the pass from Snyder two minutes into the extra period and SFU moved to 2-0 on the young season.
Saint Francis converted all three of its goals off penalty corners in the game.
Samantha Zeiders (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) posted eight saves for the second game in a row. Pellman finished with seven shots to lead all players, four of them on goal. Snyder finished with three assists in the game, giving her five already in 2014.
SFU led in total shots over Rider, 15-13 and in penalty corners, 11-7.
The Red Flash will start a four-game home stand on Sunday as it welcomes Towson for a 1 p.m. match-up.
