BOX SCORE LORETTO, Pa. (Sept. 14, 2014) - A day after setting the single-game scoring record in program history against Towson, the Saint Francis U field hockey team set a new scoring record with an 8-1 defeat over Colgate on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Flash (5-0) continues its best start in program history,
Selena Adamshick (Harveys Lake, Pa./Lake-Lehman) set another SFU record as she picked up four assists during the game to go along with a goal. The Raiders (1-5) put up just two shots, compared to the Red Flash' 31.
Mackenzie Wirth (Thompsontown, Pa./Greenwood) started the scoring for Saint Francis five minutes in as she scored off a long feed from Adamshick. Six minutes later
Shannon Pereira (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/Francis Libermann Catholic) dribbled past defenders on the right side and found an open
Elizabeth Momeyer (Harrison City, Pa./Penn Trafford) who scored her first goal of the season and put SFU up 2-0.
It was
Carissa Makea (Auckland, New Zealand/Rosehill College) who scored a minute later off a penalty corner attempt with assists going to Adamshick and
Nikki Snyder (Harveys Lake, Pa./Lake-Lehman). Wirth scored again at the 15:54 mark and Saint Francis was up 4-0 not even halfway through the first period.
Autumn Pellman (Millerstown, Pa./Greenwood) then scored back-to-back unassisted goals and Saint Francis took the 6-0 lead, which they would take into the halftime break.
Michelle Lipski (Shavertown, Pa./Lake-Lehman) scored her first collegiate goal to open the second half, Wirth and Adamshick picked up assists on the goal.
Colgate got on the board at the 41:56 mark and then trailed 7-1. Adamshick then set the new SFU single game scoring record at the 59:03 mark when she dribbled through defenders and beat the Raiders goalkeeper.
The Red Flash finished with 15 penalty corners, while the Raiders had just two.
Samantha Zeiders (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) earned the win in net to move to 5-0 on the season.
Ingrid Ulrich (Calgary, Alberta, Canada/Central Memorial) logged 21:55 in the second half between the pipes for SFU.
Saint Francis will wrap up its first four-game home stand on Friday as it plays its first Atlantic 10 Conference game when Saint Joseph's visits Loretto at 3 p.m.
