SFU Beats Saint Joseph’s to Open A10 Play

BOX SCORE LORETTO, Pa. (Sept. 19, 2014) – The Saint Francis University field hockey team opened its 2014 Atlantic 10 Conference schedule with a win over Saint Joseph's, 6-0, on Friday afternoon at DeGol Field.

The win keeps the Red Flash (6-0, 1-0) undefeated on the season and moves it to 4-0 on its home turf. SFU's No. 1 nationally ranked offense put up the six goals off 22 shots and registered 13 penalty corners, with three goals coming from the NCAA's leader in goals per game, Autumn Pellman (Millerstown, Pa./Greenwood).

Elizabeth Momeyer (Harrison City, Pa./Penn Trafford) scored to break the game open for Saint Francis off a pass from Mackenzie Wirth (Thompsontown, Pa./Greenwood) on the left side to put SFU up 1-0. Pellman notched her first of the afternoon at the 11:06 mark after Selena Adamshick (Harveys Lake, Pa./Lake-Lehman) fired in a long pass to give the Flash a 2-0 lead.

The Wirth/Momeyer connection struck again six minutes later as Momeyer cleaned up in front of the net off an original pass from Wirth and SFU took the 3-0 lead.

Carissa Makea (Auckland, New Zealand/Rosehill College) fired a shot and got her own rebound, which she put past Hawks (3-4, 0-1) goalkeeper, Amelia Diebler, and SFU had the 4-0 advantage.

Pellman then would score two goals before the halftime break, the first coming from a nice feed from Nikki Snyder (Harveys Lake, Pa./Lake-Lehman) at the 29:46 mark. Pellman's third goal of the day came off a penalty stroke and gave Saint Francis the 6-0 lead, which would be the final score.

The Red Flash posted eight penalty corners and nine shots in the second half, but did not record a goal. Samantha Zeiders (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) earned her first shutout of the season, while adding four saves.

Saint Francis hits the road next weekend for two games in Missouri, it will play Saint Louis at 2 p.m. on Friday and Missouri State at 1 p.m. on Saturday, both times are EST.
