LORETTO, Pa. (Jan, 17 2015) The Saint Francis Swimming team falls to the University of Akron this afternoon, 147-106.
Akron dominated most of the meet taking the first ten events from Saint Francis.
The Flash had swimmers finish second the in 400-yd freestyle relay, fourth and fifth in the 400-yd IM, third in the 200-yd freestyle, and several other events.
SFU finally broke through with in the eleventh event, the 100-yd breaststroke as
Catherine Rogers (Nokesville, Va./Seton School) finished the event with a 1:06.72 time. Rogers also finished strong in the 50-yd breaststroke with a time of 30.38.
Saint Francis finished very strong in the 50-yd butterfly as
Mary Kish (Glendale, Ariz./Bourgade Catholic),
Alicia Tiberino (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill), and
Ava Shahdadian (McMurray, Pa./Peters Twp.) all recorded points in the event.
Mary Margaret Folz (Valencia, Pa./Eden Christian Academy) took home the 500-yd freestyle with a time of 5:11.76.
Emma Karell (Norrtalge, Sweden/Taby Swim Club) and
Megan Reilly (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) both finished strong in this event as well finishing second and third with times of 5:20.98 and 5:48.18.
In the 400-yd medley relay, SFU took the event and all the points as
Sara Dieterich (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot),
Mary Kish (Glendale, Ariz./Bourgade Catholic),
Catherine Rogers (Nokesville, Va./Seton School), and
Katie Lafferty (Bremen, Ind./Bremen) took home the victory with a time of 4:03.84. And
Jessica Reilly (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Upper St. Clair),
Katelynn Happney (Chesterfield, Va./Manchester ),
Natalie Tedjasukmana (Anaheim, Calif./Mater Dei), and Shahdadian finished behind their teammates with a time of 4:15.17
This is the first time the Flash have been defeated in Loretto this year and only the fifth time overall this season.
Saint Francis will wrap up it's home season on January, 24 against Siena. It will then travel to Youngstown State to finish off the regular season before competing in the NEC tournament
