Men’s Tennis Primed for NEC Championship Run

LORETTO, Pa. (April 16, 2015) - The Saint Francis University men's tennis team secured its second straight No. 3 seed under second-year head coach Rob Castille.

The Red Flash, who won both their league matches this spring, reached the NEC semifinals a year ago for the first time since the 2001 season. SFU will open NEC Quarterfinal play against Sacred Heart at 11:30 a.m.

"We are the same seed as last year, but I think we have a better team this year. Our confidence and the belief in ourselves is at an all-time high right now," said Castille.

The win at NEC's last season came over Mount St. Mary's, before falling to championship runner-up Fairleigh Dickinson.

SFU finished the 2015 regular season with a 7-8 overall record and was undefeated in conference play after picking up wins over Wagner and The Mount.

"We will feel some pressure since we are the higher seed and we're expected to win. We feel used to this now and I expect them to enjoy the situation and be at their best," Castille continued.

Chris Jimenez (Bayside, N.Y./St. Francis Preparatory) and Plamen Avuski (Plovdiv, Bulgaria /Math High School ) each earned All-NEC honors for singles play in 2014 and will look to repeat.
