SOMERSET, N.J. – One week of competition for Saint Francis athletics is in the books, and the Red Flash has already earned a Northeast Conference Player of the Week honor. Red Flash women's soccer goalkeeper
Romina Kunze (Frankfurt, Germany/Carl-von-Weinberg-Schule) was named the NEC Defensive Player of the Week for her outstanding performances at the Steel City Classic over the weekend.
Â
Kunze, a senior, totaled 38 saves in the Flash's two games. In a tie against ACC member Pittsburgh in the season opener on Friday, she registered 26 saves and challenged the 24-year-old school record of 33 saves. It gave the Flash a result against the Panthers for just the second time in six all-time meetings between the schools. Kunze made several saves in the second half and overtime to keep Pitt from taking a lead or winning the match.
Â
She also registered a 12-save performance against Atlantic 10 member Duquesne on Sunday. Her performance at the Steel City Classic earned her a place on the All-Tournament Team.
Â
Kunze and the Flash continues its season-opening road trip Friday at Loyola Chicago.Â
