Freshmen Lead SFU Swimming at Delaware Meet

  • The SFU swimming team made its season debut on Saturday at Delaware in a meet against the Blue Hens and Georgetown.

Results

NEWARK, Del. – The Saint Francis swimming team made its season debut on Saturday, with multiple freshmen earning Top Three finishes on the day, against Delaware and Georgetown.  The Red Flash fell 185-95 to Delaware and 216-78 to Georgetown.
 
Freshman Karilyn Quon (Tempe, Ariz./Corona del Sol) earned a pair of Top Three finishes on the day.  Quon recorded a time of 2:07.67 in the 200-yard Backstroke, already the sixth-best time in program history, to finish second in the event.  Later in the meet, Quon took third place in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:10.10.
 
Fellow rookie Sabrina Bowman (Vandergrift, Pa./Saint Joseph's) also picked two Top Three finishes.  She placed third in the 100-yard Backstroke, with a time of 59.40.  She also had a pace of 57.87, the ninth-best time in program history, to finish third in the 100-yard Butterfly.
 
Erin O'Neill (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn), also a freshman, earned a second-place finish in the 200-yard Breaststroke, with a time of 2:27.41.  She was also the Red Flash's top finisher in the 100-yard Breaststroke, posting a time of 1:08.20.
 
Junior Katie Lafferty (Bremen, Ind./Bremen) placed second in the 200-yard Freestyle, with a time of 1:55.96.  She also finished fifth in the 500-yard Freestyle, with a pace of 5:17.92. 
 
Freshman Aimee Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) recorded a time of 54.45 to place third in the 100-yard Freestyle.  Baur finished fifth in the 50-yard Freestyle, with a time of 25.31. 
 
Junior Emma Karell (Norrtälje, Sweden/Täby Swim Club) earned a third-place finish in the 1000-yard Freestyle, with a pace of 10:54.06.  Karell also posted a time of 2:14.53 in the 200-yard Butterfly as the highest SFU finisher in that event.
 
The Red Flash had a strong performance in the 200-yard Medley Relay, with Bowman, O'Neill and Lafferty combining with senior Paige McLean (Bolton, Ontario/St. Michael Catholic Secondary) for a second-place finish.  The group combined for a time of 1:48.19, the eighth-best time in program history.
 
In the 400-yard Freestyle Relay, Bowman, O'Neill, Baur and Lafferty teamed up for a time of 3:39.83.
 
The Red Flash returns to action next weekend at the Colgate Invitational.  The two-day invitational begins on Friday, October 7 and ends on Saturday, October 8.
