Swimming Wins Northeast College Invitational

Junior Katie Lafferty won two individual events on Saturday

Results

LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis swimming team won the Northeast Catholic Invitational, hosted by Boston College.  In the meet, scored as a dual meet, SFU defeated all six of its opponents in the two-day invitational.  On Saturday, Saint Francis placed first in 10 of 12 events, raising its total for the weekend to 14 first-place finishes in 17 events.  SFU set six meet records on Saturday.
 
In the dual scoring, Saint Francis went 6-0.  They earned wins over Assumption College (230-85), Boston College (198-149), Holy Cross (255-86), Merrimack (268-43), Providence (232-99) and Siena (260-53).
 
The Red Flash completed a sweep of the relay events on the weekend by placing first in Saturday's 200 Medley and 400 Freestyle Relays.
 
In the 200-yard Medley Relay, freshman Sabrina Bowman (Vandergrift, Pa./Saint Joseph's), freshman Erin O'Neill (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn), senior Paige McLean (Bolton, Ontario/St. Michael Catholic Secondary) and junior Katie Lafferty (Bremen, Ind./Bremen) combined for a time of 1:49.75.  That topped the previous record of 1:50.74, set by Saint Francis at last year's Northeast Catholic Invitational.
 
Sophomore Kristin Fisher (Lakevilla, Conn./Housatonic Valley Regional), sophomore Jessica Crumm (New Hampton, N.Y./Minisink Valley), junior Kasey Marks (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman) and freshman Kristen Toth (Silver Spring, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) finished 11th in the event, with a time of 1:58.10. 
 
The team of sophomore Amanda Crnic (Conway, Ark./Conway) and freshmen Laura Patrick (Lake Charles, La./St. Louis Catholic), Meaghan Saettel (Miamisburg, Ohio/Miamisburg) and Meghan Albertelli (Johnstown, Pa./Westmont Hilltop) earned team points with a time of 2:02.18 to place 19th.
 
The Red Flash also placed first in the 400-yard Freestyle Relay as the combination of juniors Natalie Tedjasukmana (Anaheim, Calif./Mater Dei), Alicia Tiberino (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) and Emma Karell (Norrtälje, Sweden/Täby Swim Club) as well as freshman Karilyn Quon (Tempe, Ariz./Corona del Sol) posted a time of 3:38.14 for the win.
 
Freshman Emily Anderson (Middlesburg Heights, Ohio/Berea-Midpark), sophomore Marisa Daly (Wallingford, Conn./Mark T. Sheehan), Marks and sophomore Rory O'Dell (Chapel Hill, N.C./Northwood) placed 11th with a time of 3:57.48. 
 
Saettel, sophomore Marrissa Walters (Brampton, Ontario/Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School), freshman Teresa Narduzzi (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) and sophomore Shelby Sanko (McAdoo, Pa./Hazleton Area) earned a 14th place finish with a time of 4:03.91 to earn team points for SFU.
 
In the 400-yard IM, Quon set a meet record, with a time of 4:37.27, to top the previous record of 4:40.01 set by Assumption's Niamh Morgan in 2016.  Patrick added a time of 4:50.24 to finish fourth, while O'Dell placed seventh, with a pace of 4:52.16.  Daly rounded out the Top 10 finishers with a time of 4:54.40 to finish 10th.  Saettel, with a time of 4:59.19, finished 14th, while Marks, with a time of 4:59.91, finished 15th.
 
Bowman accomplished a meet record in the 100-yard Butterfly, with a time of 58.44 to best the time of 58.50 set by Boston College's Jordan Parry in 2015.  Tiberino claimed fifth place, with a time of 1:00.82, while Tedjasukmana finished seventh, with a pace of 1:01.04.
 
In the 200-yard Freestyle, the Red Flash claimed the Top Two spots.  Lafferty set a meet record with a time of 1:55.70 to top her time of 1:55.96 from last year's invitational.   Freshman Aimee Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) placed second, with a time of 1:58.45, while McLean finished eighth, with a pace of 2:00.70.
 
Bowman earned another meet record with a time of 59.73 in the 100-yard Backstroke.  That bettered the previous record of 59.91 by LeMoyne's Katie O'Donnell in 2012.  Tedjasukmana finished fifth, with a time of 1:03.00, while TIberino came in 10th, with a time of 1:03.54.
 
Saint Francis also earned the Top Two places in the 200-yard Backstroke.  Quon set a meet record with a time of 2:08.88, previously held by Assumption's Morgan (2:09.00).  Baur also finished second in this event, with a time of 2:10.95.  O'Dell placed eighth, with a pace of 2:15.72.
 
O'Neill won the 200-yard Breaststroke, with a time of 2:27.06, to lead a group of four Red Flash swimmers that each placed in the Top Four of the event.  Crumm earned a time of 2:31.89 to finish second, while Patrick was third with a pace of 2:31.90.  Toth finished fourth, posting a time of 2:32.12.
 
In the 100-yard Breaststroke, O'Neill also won that event.  She recorded a time of 1:08.10.  Crumm came in fourth, with a time of 1:08.10, while Toth was seventh, with a time of 1:11.01.
 
Lafferty posted a time of 53.11 in the 100-yard Freestyle to earn a first-place finish.  Tedjasukmana claimed third place, with a time of 55.11.
 
In the 1000-yard Freestyle, Karell finished third, with a time of 10:52.46.  McLean placed fifth in the event with a time of 10:59.17.  Marks earned team points with a 16th place finish, with a time of 11:28.68.
 
Karell was SFU's top finisher in the 200-yard Butterfly, with a pace of 2:12.77 to finish fourth.  O'Dell placed eighth, with a time of 2:15.74.
 
The Red Flash returns to action on Saturday, October 29 for its first NEC meet of the season.  It will also be Saint Francis' home debut at the Stokes Natatorium, with a 1 p.m. start.
