Women’s Tennis’ Bode Named NEC Rookie of the Week

LORETTO, Pa. – Saint Francis women's tennis freshman Raksha Bode (Reunion, Fla./Florida Virtual School) was selected as NEC Rookie of the Week, announced by the conference on Tuesday.  Bode was named Rookie of the Week for the second time this season after going 2-1 in singles and 3-0 in doubles this past weekend.

Bode earned both singles wins at the No. 3 position.  On Friday, she knocked off Wagner's Samantha Hodges, 1-6, 6-0, 6-4.  She followed that with a 6-0, 6-0 win on Saturday over St. Francis Brooklyn's Jennifer Gonzalez.  Bode finished the regular season with a 3-0 mark in conference play.  She leads NEC freshmen with 12 singles wins.

In doubles, Bode paired with senior Dani Gryckiewicz (Calgary, Alberta/Calgary Academy) at the No. 2 spot.  The duo defeated Wagner's Carolyn Gibson and Madison Pautsch, 6-2, on Friday.  The pair cruised to 6-1 victories on Saturday over St. Francis Brooklyn's Gonzalez and Vanja Savic and Hofstra's Sarah Herndon and Michal Kaplan.  The SFU duo has seven wins this spring.

The Red Flash, seeded fourth, takes on LIU Brooklyn, the fifth seed, in the first round of the NEC Championships on Friday.  The match begins at approximately 2 p.m.  The winner meets the winner of the Bryant/St. Francis Brooklyn match.
