LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis men's tennis team begins its Fall season this weekend at the Bucknell Invitational, hosted on the Bison's campus. The invitational begins on Friday and finishes on Sunday.
Joining the Red Flash, led by Head Coach
Rob Castille, and the Bison at the invitational are Colgate, Loyola (Md.) and Mount St. Mary's.
The Red Flash men's tennis team returns six members from last year's squad, which tied a school-record with 14 wins and reached the NEC Championship match.
First Team All-NEC selection
Alec Dylan Foo-Kune (Phoenix, Mauritius/International Connections Academy (Md.)) returns after posting a 16-13 overall record last year. The junior went 4-4 last Fall. Foo-Kune, also First Team All-NEC at No. 1 doubles, will have to find a new doubles partner this year after the graduation of NEC Player of the Year
Washi Gervais (Longueuil, Quebec/College Stanislas).
Senior
Plamen Avuski (Plovdiv, Bulgaria /Math High School ) led the Red Flash with 19 wins last year, including five in the Fall, while sophomore
Jan Vit Suntar (Cerklje na Gorenjskem, Slovenia/Gimnazija Kranj) earned 17 victories, with four coming in the Fall. Avuski and Suntar were Second Team All-NEC in doubles, with an 18-10 mark.
Senior
Eli Cerdan (Bloomfield, N.J. /Saint Mary High School) had 12 wins last year, including three in the Fall, while fellow senior
Rodrigo Tico (Guadalajara, Mexico/Colegio de Bachilleres) won 10 matches, with five victories in tournaments. Sophomore
Robin van der Heijden (Burgh Haamstede, Netherlands/Scheldmond College) earned nine wins last year.
Freshmen
Arturo Dell'eva (Verona, Italy/Sanchez Casal Tennis Academy) and
Franz Luna (Guatemala City, Guatemala/Laurel Springs) will make their collegiate debuts this weekend. Dell'eva comes to Loretto from Italy, while Luna was the top ranked player in Guatemala as an 18-year old.
