LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis swimming team returns to action this weekend after a month-long break. The Red Flash visits Youngstown State on Friday for a 6 p.m. meet. The next day, SFU travels to Duquesne for a 2 p.m. meet.
Saint Francis is 8-3 in dual meets this season, earning a 217-42 win in its last meet, a December 3 contest against Lock Haven. The Red Flash dominated the meet with a first-place finish in all 14 events and a sweep of the top three places in 11 events.
Freshmen
Aimee Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) and
Karilyn Quon (Tempe, Ariz./Corona del Sol) and senior
Paige McLean (Bolton, Ontario/St. Michael Catholic Secondary) each earned two event wins in that meet.
Baur claimed first place in the 100-yard Freestyle, with a time of 54.35, and the 100-yard Backstroke, with a time of 1:00.26. Quon took the top spot in the 100-yard Butterfly, with a pace of 1:01.50, and 100-yard Breaststroke, touching the wall in 1:12.00.
McLean picked up individual wins in the 200-yard Breaststroke, with a time of 2:30.09, and 500-yard Freestyle, with a time of 5:21.78.
Five other Red Flash earned an individual win. Junior
Emma Karell (Norrtälje, Sweden/Täby Swim Club) won the 200-yard Freestyle (2:00.31), while senior
Katie Lafferty (Bremen, Ind./Bremen) finished in first place in the 200-yard Backstroke (2:12.57). Junior
Natalie Tedjasukmana (Anaheim, Calif./Mater Dei) was the top finisher in the 50-yard Freestyle (24.94), freshman
Sabrina Bowman (Vandergrift, Pa./Saint Joseph's) won the 200-yard Butterfly (2:11.57) and sophomore
Rory O'Dell (Chapel Hill, N.C./Northwood) earned first place in the 200-yard IM (2:18.58).
The Red Flash won all three relay events. In the 200-yard Medley Relay, freshman
Teresa Narduzzi (West Orange, N.J./West Orange), sophomore
Jessica Crumm (New Hampton, N.Y./Minisink Valley), freshman
Meaghan Saettel (Miamisburg, Ohio/Miamisburg) and McLean combined for the top time of 1:55.19.
In the 200-yard Freestyle Relay, the group of junior
Alicia Tiberino (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill), freshman
Meghan Albertelli (Johnstown, Pa./Westmont Hilltop), Tedjasukamana and freshman
Laura Patrick (Lake Charles, La./St. Louis Catholic) won with a time of 1:43.27.
The 400-yard Freestyle Relay team of sophomore
Marrissa Walters (Brampton, Ontario/Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School), Tiberino, freshman
Kristen Toth (Silver Spring, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) and freshman
Emily Graziano (Jeannette, Pa./Penn Trafford) had the event's top time, 3:48.78.
Quon owns Top 10 times in the NEC in five different events, including the 500-yard Freestyle (8th, 5:08.49), 1000-yard Freestyle (2nd, 10:38.86), 200-yard Backstroke (8th, 2:07.67), 200-yard IM (T-9th, 2:10.10) and 400-yard IM (6th, 4:34.56).
Karell has Top 10 NEC Times in four events this year, among the conference's best in the 1000-yard Freestyle (7th, 10:47.17), 200-yard Breaststroke (10th, 2:26.90), 200-yard Butterfly (8th, 2:10.50) and is tied with teammate McLean for ninth in the 400-yard IM (4:39.24).
Lafferty is among the league's best times in the 50-yard Freestyle (6th, 23.86) and 200-yard Freestyle (9th, 1:55.08), while Bowman has the ninth-best time in the 100-yard Butterfly (57.76) and Baur has the 10th-best in the 100-yard Backstroke (58.96).
Youngstown State is 2-2 in dual meets this season, with wins over St. Bonaventure and Niagara. SFU defeated the Penguins, 148-110, in last year's meet at Stokes Natatorium.
Junior Viktoria Orosz holds YSU's top times in the 50-yard Freestyle (24.95), 200-yard Freestyle (1:49.02), 1,000-yard Freestyle (10:33.78), 1,650-yard Freestyle (17:10.38), 200-yard Backstroke (2:06.34), 200-yard Breaststroke (2:27.09) and 200-yard IM (2:04.16).
Duquesne enters the weekend with a 7-1 record in dual meets, with its last dual meet win coming on November 11 vs. Toledo, a 159-100 victory. The Dukes last competed at the Orange Bowl Swim Classic on January 3.
