BOX SCORE Loretto, Pa. - The Saint Francis women's soccer team (6-6-1, 3-0 NEC) scored three second-half goals to take down Robert Morris (2-10, 0-3 NEC) 3-0 on Sunday.
Van Stralen's Reaction
"It's always a good result to get three points in conference," said head coach
Brenda van Stralen. "We were able to play ourselves into the game after a bit of a slow start and control the game for the entirety of the match."
Turning Point
The Colonials were able to thwart off the Saint Francis attack in the first half, but it didn't take long for SFU to get on the board in the second half. Sophomore
Alyssa McGhee (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) scored her team-leading fifth goal in the 52nd minute and the Red Flash never looked back.
Highlights
- Sophomore Abigail Tarosky (North Huntington, Pa./Norwin) had SFU's best opportunity of the first half, receiving a pass in the box with her back to goal, spinning with her first touch, and curling a shot just wide.Â
- McGhee provided a spark early in the second half, combining on a one-two with junior Sara Suler (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory). Her cross to the far post proceeded to sneak into the side-netting to put the Flash in front.
- Senior defender Allison LaDuke (Greensburg, Pa./Greater Latrobe), who was solid in the back all match alongside junior Shannon McGinnis (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus), created the second goal with a beautiful chipped through pass to freshman Camryn Tirado (Deptford, N.J./Deptford). The pass made its way by the Robert Morris goalkeeper, who was being challenged by Tirado, and hit the post. Tirado continued towards goal and was there to follow up for her fourth goal of the season.
- Senior Bri Guy (Turtle Creek, Pa./Woodland Hills) netted her first career goal in the 81st minute to put the game to bed. Senior Siobhan Bross (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) uncorked a left-footed shot off the underside of the crossbar. The ball bounded down to Guy who showed great composure before lifting over the charging keeper.
