LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis Men's Tennis team resumes Spring action on Saturday as it visits St. Bonaventure for a 10 a.m. match. The Red Flash looks to build on a 7-3 start this season.
The Red Flash, led by Head Coach
Rob Castille, did not play a match last week after splitting its matches two weekends ago. SFU fell 5-2 at Temple on February 25, but bounced back for a 5-2 win over Lehigh on February 26.
Freshman
Franz Luna (Guatemala City, Guatemala/Laurel Springs) was named the NEC Rookie of the Month last week after an 8-2 start to the Spring. He has played all of his matches at No. 2. Sophomore
Jan Vit Suntar (Cerklje na Gorenjskem, Slovenia/Gimnazija Kranj) is 7-1 this Spring, playing at No. 4, 5 and 6, while junior
Alec Dylan Foo-Kune (Phoenix, Mauritius/International Connections Academy (Md.)) is 6-4 at No. 1.
Senior
Plamen Avuski (Plovdiv, Bulgaria /Math High School ) is 6-2 in dual matches, while playing at No. 4 and 5. Freshman
Arturo Dell'eva (Verona, Italy/Sanchez Casal Tennis Academy) and senior
Rodrigo Tico (Guadalajara, Mexico/Colegio de Bachilleres) each have five wins this Spring. Dell'eva is 5-1, playing at No. 3 and 4, while Tico is 5-5, playing at the same positions. Senior
Eli Cerdan (Bloomfield, N.J. /Saint Mary High School) is 4-2, playing at No. 5 and 6.
Foo-Kune and Tico have combined at No. 1 for a 7-3 record. Luna and Suntar have paired at No. 2 for a 3-1 mark, while Avuski and Cerdan are 4-0 at No. 3.
St. Bonaventure is 5-8 this Spring, with wins over Loyola (Md.) (5-2), Siena (7-0), Saint Peter's (7-0), Wright State (4-3) and Fordham (6-1). The Bonnies host Colgate on Friday before taking on Saint Francis on Saturday.
The Bonnies' Victor Blanco is 5-7 at No. 1 and Hector Martinez is 7-5 at No. 2. Indra Patwardhan has a 7-2 mark at No. 3.
Blanco and Patwardhan are 3-2 at No. 1 doubles, while Martinez and Guillermo Garcia are 3-3 at No. 2.
