LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis Men's Tennis team looks to continue its solid start to the Spring this weekend when it hosts Niagara and Mount St. Mary's. The Red Flash will battle Niagara on Friday at 10 a.m. at the Greensburg Racquet Club. SFU will take on Mount on Sunday at 1 p.m. at The Club Sport and Health in Monroeville.
The Red Flash, led by Head Coach
Rob Castille, is 8-3 this Spring, including 1-0 in NEC play, after earning a 6-1 win over St. Bonaventure last Saturday.
Junior
Alec Dylan Foo-Kune (Phoenix, Mauritius/International Connections Academy (Md.)) earned NEC Player of the Week honors after his 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 1 over SBU's Victor Blanco. Foo-Kune is 7-4 this Spring, playing all of his matches at No. 1.
Freshman
Franz Luna (Guatemala City, Guatemala/Laurel Springs) was name NEC Rookie of the Week after earning a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 2 against the Bonnies' Hector Martinez. Luna is 9-2 this Spring and 16-5 overall.
Fellow rookie
Arturo Dell'eva (Verona, Italy/Sanchez Casal Tennis Academy) earned a win at No. 3 to improve to 6-1 this Spring, while senior
Plamen Avuski (Plovdiv, Bulgaria /Math High School ) won at No. 4 to move to 7-2 in dual matches. Sophomore
Jan Vit Suntar (Cerklje na Gorenjskem, Slovenia/Gimnazija Kranj) is 8-1 this Spring after a win at No. 6.
Senior
Rodrigo Tico (Guadalajara, Mexico/Colegio de Bachilleres) has five wins this Spring, while fellow senior
Eli Cerdan (Bloomfield, N.J. /Saint Mary High School) is 4-3 in dual matches.
In doubles, Foo-Kune and Tico are 7-3 at No. 1, while Luna and Suntar own a 3-1 mark at No. 2. Avuski and Cerdan are 5-0 at No. 3.
Niagara is 2-10 this Spring, with wins against Daemen College (8-1) and Oberlin (4-2). Last weekend, the Purple Eagles fell 4-0 and 5-1 in two matches at Purdue and 7-0 at Michigan State. Francis Nadeau and Taylan Ozdemir each have three wins this Spring.
Mount St. Mary's is 1-5 overall, with a win over Norfolk State (4-3) last weekend. Brandon Wortkotter is 4-2 this Spring, while playing at No. 4, 5 and 6.
