LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis Men's Tennis team travels to Fairfield, Conn. this weekend for an NEC matchup against Sacred Heart. The match is set to begin on Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Pioneer Tennis Courts.
The Red Flash, led by Head Coach
Rob Castille, is 10-3 overall, its best start in program history. SFU has won four straight matches and has a 2-0 mark in NEC matches. Last weekend, Saint Francis earned 7-0 wins over Niagara and Mount St. Mary's.
Junior
Alec Dylan Foo-Kune (Phoenix, Mauritius/International Connections Academy (Md.)) was named NEC Player of the Week after winning both of his matches at No. 1 to improve to 9-4 this Spring at No. 1. Freshman
Franz Luna (Guatemala City, Guatemala/Laurel Springs) earned NEC Rookie of the Week honors with two wins at No. 2. Luna is 11-2 in dual matches, playing all of his matches at No. 2.
Sophomore
Jan Vit Suntar (Cerklje na Gorenjskem, Slovenia/Gimnazija Kranj) is 10-1 this Spring, playing at No. 4, 5 and 6. Senior
Plamen Avuski (Plovdiv, Bulgaria /Math High School ) owns a 9-4 record this Spring, playing at No. 4, 5 and 6, while freshman
Arturo Dell'eva (Verona, Italy/Sanchez Casal Tennis Academy) is 8-1, playing at No. 3 and 4. Senior
Eli Cerdan (Bloomfield, N.J. /Saint Mary High School) has six wins, playing at No. 5 and 6.
Foo-Kune and Luna have combined for three straight wins at No. 1 doubles. Dell'eva and Suntar are 4-2 at No. 2, while Avuski and Cerdan are 7-0 at No. 3.
Sacred Heart is 2-8 overall and 0-1 in NEC matches. The Pioneers have wins over Holy Cross (7-0) and Saint Peter's (6-1). SHU fell 6-1 against Boston University last weekend.
