BOX SCORE Fairfield, Conn. - Senior midfielder
Holly Lawrence (Damascus, Md./Damascus) inched closer to the Saint Francis single-season goals record with a five-goal outing at Sacred Heart on Friday, but it wasn't enough as the Pioneers snapped a 14-14 tie with the game-winning goal with 1:01 to play in the game. Junior attacker
Sarah Mahon (Malverne, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) added four goals in the loss.
Turning Point
Saint Francis erased an early 8-5 second half deficit to tie the score on two separate occasions. Lawrence's final strike of the game with 8:00 to play tied the game at 12-12. It was the first time SFU had been tied since the score was 4-4 with 17:16 to go in the first half.
The Pioneers answered with two quick goals to regain its advantage before the duo of junior
Jessica Mazzur (Dallastown, Pa./York Catholic) and freshman
Sydney Davis (Harwood, Md./Southern) connected on back-to-back goals to tie the game at 14-14 with 2:16 to play. Both goals were nearly identical as Davis snuck around the back of the cage and was spotted by Mazzur in front of goal.
After winning the draw control, a Saint Francis turnover gave the ball back to Sacred Heart. Senior defender Tori O'Brien appeared to force a turnover with under two minutes to play but was instead whistled for a foul. On the ensuing possession, Sacred Heart secured a loose ball and beat senior goalie
Heather McKee (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright Bel Air) to take a 15-14 lead with 1:01 to go. The Pioneers were awarded the next draw control and ran out the remaining 60 seconds to get the win.
