Gutierrez, Tamarkin Advance To Doubles Semifinals At Western & Southern Collegiate Invite

CINCINNATI, OHIO – The Saint Francis Women's Tennis team competed in singles and doubles action on day one of the Western & Southern Collegiate Invite.  The tournament will conclude on Saturday.
 
In doubles, sophomore Laura Gutierrez (Bogota, Colombia/Cibercolegio UCN) combined with freshman Nastasia Tamarkin (Washington, D.C./School Without Walls).  In their first round match, the duo knocked off Belmont's Sarah Beth Crowe and Suzanna Stapler, 6-3.  In the Quarterfinals, the Red Flash pair competed in a tough set against Dayton's Anna Delaney and Kelly Pleiman, but came out on top, 7-6.  Gutierrez and Tamarkin will take on Eastern Kentucky's Alexandra Belle and Margaux Lacroix in Saturday's Semifinals.
 
Junior Raksha Bode (Reunion, Fla./Florida Virtual School) and sophomore Lucia Seigford (Madrid, Spain/Mirasur) paired up against Evansville's Daria Pentsova and Diana Tkachenko in their first round match.  However, the SFU duo fell 6-1.
 
Junior Stephanie Miller (Washington, D.C./St. John's College High School) took on Belmont's Sarah Brackin in a first round match.  The SFU junior won the opening set, 6-1, but Brackin responded by winning the next set, 6-1.  In the deciding super-tiebreaker set, Miller dropped a 10-6 decision. 
 
Gutierrez competed against Eastern Kentucky's Belle in her opening singles match.  However, Gutierrez fell 6-2, 6-4.  She is now 3-2 this Fall.
 
In her first round match, Seigford faced Belmont's Maria Plaksina.  The SFU sophomore dropped a 6-3, 6-2 decision.
 
Tamarkin took on Cincinnati's Amanda Huser in her first round match, but their final score was not available on Friday. 
 
Bode received a first round bye and will compete against Duquesne's Koralie Etienne in Saturday's Quarterfinals.

Quarterfinals) Pentsova/Tkachenko(Evansville) def. Bode/Seigford(SFU), 6-1.
Gutierrez/Tamarkin(SFU) def. Delaney/Pleiman(Dayton), 7-6.
Semifinals) Gutierrez/Tamarkin(SFU) vs. Belle/Lacroix(EKU).
 
Singles:
