BOX SCORE Loretto, Pa.-  On a day hotter than a warm cannon, The Red Flash held the defensive line against numerous frontal assaults by the Minutewomen to win a tight match 1-0.

In the waning seconds of play, Massachusetts earned a penalty corner. Their multiple attempts at scoring were denied by a valiant wall of Red Flash players.
 
Highlights

• The Red Flash got off to a Paul Revere start with a quick goal by Taylor Massage (Hummelstown, Pa./Hershey). Massage was assisted by Brianna Govia (St. James, Trinidad/Holy Name) on a brilliant pass and shot combination.
• Five minutes later, UMass was awarded a penalty corner. Goalkeeper Elizabeth Dyer (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) expertly blocked the shot attempt.
• In the 16th minute, the Red Flash had an excellent opportunity as Kyra Castano (Laflin, Pa./James M. Coughlin) outflanked the Minutewomen's formation near the goal. However, Govia's sharp pass run up her stick and went out of play.
• In the 32nd minute, Elizabeth Dyer (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) made an amazing save to prevent a tie before halftime.
• In the 33rd minute, Kellie Drugotch (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge)'s shot just went wide right to keep the score at 1-0.
• Right at the 40th minute, Brianna Govia (St. James, Trinidad/Holy Name) had a well-placed shot denied by the UMass goalkeeper.
• In the 45th minute, Elizabeth Dyer (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) made a magnificent high block of a missile of a shot.
• Massachusetts received a flurry of penalty corner opportunities down the stretch but were unable to break through thanks to stellar defensive tactics by the Red Flash.
• Elizabeth Dyer (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) made the save of the week in the 59th minute as she somehow stretched out on the terrain, post-to-post, to prevent the equalizer.
• One minute later, UMass' penalty corner shot deflected off the top crossbar scattering away like grapeshot.
• At the 63rd minute, the whole Red Flash backline combined forces to stop subsequent shots.
• Later in the 64th minute, Minutewomen Emma Bressler jabbed, like a bayonet, a shot wide right.
• UMass had another opportunity present itself but the shot careened off the shooter's stick and hit their own player in an act of friendly fire.
• With less than two minutes to play, a Minutewomen fired a cannonball of a shot from midfield that hit the right post narrowly missing its destination.
• In the last thirty seconds, the turning point and great stand occurred for the Red Flash. UMass' Sarah Hawkshaw had two shots foiled by a redcoat wall of Red Flash. Time then expired and the Red Flash won the battle.

Notes

• The stat sheet camouflages how well Elizabeth Dyer (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) played in the cage. She had seven saves and every single one was sensational defense work from the reigning Atlantic 10 goalkeeper of the year.
• The Red Flash were outshot by the Minutewomen 15 shots to six and 12 to two in the second half but Saint Francis' great defensive fortitude prevailed.
• Corner kicks were in favor of the Minutewomen six to four. Neither team converted an opportunity.
• Grace Gibson (Otane, New Zealand/Napier Girls'), once again, went the full 70 minutes.
• The Red Flash players and fans especially enjoyed the victory after a deleterious, UMass social media post regarding DeGol Field.
