BOX SCORE Loretto, Pa. - Senior
Leah Hardin (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) scored two goals and freshman
Camryn Tirado (Deptford, N.J./Deptford) added to her impressive week with her third goal in two games as the Saint Francis women's soccer team (2-3) recorded a 3-0 home victory over Loyola Md. (2-4) on Sunday at the Stokes SoccerPlex. Sophomore
Alyssa McGhee (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) tallied two assists to finish the week with a goal and four assists.
Brenda van Stralen's Reaction
"It was a complete performance," said head coach
Brenda van Stralen. Defensively, we were organized and pressured the ball early. The midfield was hard-working, like always, and we seem to be connecting well up top right now. We have to take this momentum and carry it through."
Highlights
- Hardin opened the scoring in the 8th minute with her first goal of the season. Junior defender Sara Suler (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) started the attack with a driven ball into the feet of target forward Gabi Morales (Madrid, Spain/Colegio La Inmaculada-Marillac). Playing the No. 9, the senior did a good job of controlling the ball and laying off to Hardin who laced it into the upper corner.
- After scoring her first two career goals in Thursday's win over VMI, Tirado found herself on the scoresheet once again in the 17th minute. Ironically, it was sophomore Alyssa McGhee (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) who set her up, as she did on both goals Saturday. McGhee's cross found Tirado at the back post and the freshman lofted a shot over the keeper and inside the far post.
- Hardin broke the match open in the 63rd minute to pad SFU's lead to 3-0. Senior Siobhan Bross (Danville, Pa./Danville Area), who was active in the midfield all match long, ignited the counter attack with a pass to Hardin. The senior midfielder found McGhee down the left side and then found the ball back at her feet as McGhee unselfishly cut the ball back to her instead of going for goal. Hardin finished into the open net for her first career two goal game.
