Live Sunday: Stats
Scouting George Washington
George Washington earned its first win of the season on Sunday, a 1-0 victory over American, to improve to 1-2-1 on the season. An 11-win team in 2016, George Washington opened its 2016 campaign with a 1-0 win in Loretto. The 2017 Colonials have had difficulty putting the ball in the net with just two goals through its first four games after losing top goal scorer from a season ago, MacKenzie Cowley. Saint Francis is 1-2 all-time vs. George Washigton.
McGhee's Big Week
Sophomore
Alyssa McGhee (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) earned NEC Player of the Week honors after registering a goal and four assists in SFU's two wins last week. Her four assists for the week matches her entire output for her freshman season and moves her to the top of the conference. She wasn't the only one to shine for the Red Flash as freshman
Camryn Tirado (Deptford, N.J./Deptford) netted three goals to earn Rookie of the Week and sophomore
Julia Hernan (Collegeville, Pa./The Hill School) recorded two shutout victories to be named NEC Defensive Player of the Week.
Opportunity Knocks
Saint Francis will be looking for its first win over a ranked opponent in program history on Friday when it takes on the 15th-ranked Hoyas. The last time the Red Flash faced a ranked team in the regular season was last August, a 3-1 loss to No. 6 West Virginia.
Shannon McGinnis (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) was the SFU goal scorer, opening the scoring in the 16th minute.
Hardin the Hero
The three NEC award winners weren't the only ones to have big weeks for the Red Flash. Senior
Leah Hardin (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen), making her second and third starts of the season, responded with two goals and an assist. After recording an assist at VMI, Hardin was the hero in the win over Loyola Md. with her first career two-goal game.
Unselfish Play
Saint Francis prides itself on its ability to connect passes in its opponents' attacking-third. Evidence of this lies in the statistics as Saint Francis has recorded eight total assists on its eight goals. McGhee has been the catalyst with four assists.
