Softball Defeats Omaha, 6-2; Falls 8-3 Vs. Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Saint Francis Softball team won its opening game at the Wooo Pig Classic on Friday, defeating Omaha, 6-2.  However, the Red Flash fell 8-3 against Arkansas in the second game.  The Red Flash is now 15-13 this season.
 
The Red Flash hit three homers on Friday to bring its season total up to 28.  Madison Cabell (Ivor, Va./Southampton) hit a two-run homer in game one, with Jordan Frank (DuBois, Pa./DuBois Central Catholic) and Sierra McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) adding solo shots in game two. Seven of SFU's 28 homers have come in nine games against Power Five teams.
 
Frank had three hits on the day, with two going for extra bases.  Out of her nine career hits, the freshman has two doubles, a triple and three homers.  She currently has a five-game hit streak.
 
Sophomore Adrian Smith (Clairsville, Ohio/St. Clairsville) fired her sixth complete game of the season in game one against Omaha.  She did not allow an earned run and recorded six strikeouts, one shy of her season high.
 
The Red Flash continues the Wooo Pig Classic on Saturday with contests against Tulsa (3:30 p.m. ET) and Arkansas (8:30 p.m. ET). The classic will finish on Sunday with an 11 a.m. ET matchup vs. Iowa State.
 
Game 1 – Omaha
Sophomore Adrian Smith (Clairsville, Ohio/St. Clairsville) picked up her fourth win of the year by firing a complete-game.  She allowed two unearned runs on four hits.  She walked one batter and struck out six. 
 
Aubrey Hacke started for the Mavericks.  She gave up six runs, three earned, on seven hits, while striking out two and walking four.
 
Saint Francis tallied six runs on seven hits.  Madison Cabell (Ivor, Va./Southampton) led the offense with three RBI and two runs, including a two-run homer.  Jordan Frank (DuBois, Pa./DuBois Central Catholic) collected two hits, including a double, and scored two runs.  Sierra McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) drove in two runs with a single.
 
The Mavericks had two runs and four hits.  Kelly Pattison recorded two hits and a run, while Aubrey Hack and Jessica Nelson added base hits and Nelson scored a run.
 
The Red Flash put two runs on the board in the top of the third.  With one out, Hayley Norton (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) sent a groundball up the middle for a single.  Cabell followed by blasting the first pitch of her at-bat over the wall in center for a two-run homer, her team-best eighth dinger of the season. Saint Francis led 2-0 going to the bottom of the third.
 
Saint Francis extended its lead to 3-0 in the fifth inning.  Frank ripped a double to the gap in left center to begin the inning.  A wild pitch moved Frank to third before a groundout to shortstop by Cabell brought home Frank. 
 
Omaha cut the deficit to one with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth.  After singles by Nelson and Pattison, a fly ball by Natalie Mostek was misplayed in centerfield to allow Nelson to score from second.  A wild pitch allowed Pattison to cross the plate before a popout ended the inning.  The Red Flash led 3-2 after five innings.
 
The Red Flash added three runs in the top of the seventh.  Taylor Hoover (Phillipsburg, Ohio/Northmont) began the inning with a bloop single to center, but pinch-runner Brittney Crawford (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon McMillan) was thrown out on a steal attempt. Pinch-hitter MeKenzie Saban (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) drew a walk before Frank hit a blooper into right to put two runners on. A flyout by Norton moved pinch-runner Cheyenne McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) to third. Cabell drew a four-pitch walk to load the bases before Sierra McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) sent a line drive into center.  McKee's liner was misplayed in center to allow three runs to score, with Cheyenne McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois), Frank and Cabell all crossing the plate.  Saint Francis led 6-2 going to the bottom of the seventh.
 
Game 2 – Arkansas
Sophomore Abby Trahan (Kaplan, La./Kaplan) started in the circle for the Red Flash.  She went six innings, allowing eight runs on nine hits, while walking four and striking out one.
 
Autumn Storms got the start for the Razorbacks.  She earned her seventh win of the season, throwing 5.1 shutout innings, allowing three hits and two walks, while striking out five.  Katie Warrick replaced Storms to start the fifth and went 1.2 innings, giving up three runs, two earned, on four hits and walking one.  Storms re-entered to record the final out of the game.
 
The Red Flash scored three runs on seven hits.  Jordan Frank (DuBois, Pa./DuBois Central Catholic) and Sierra McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) each hit solo home runs, with Frank hitting her third and McKee her second.  Taylor Hoover (Phillipsburg, Ohio/Northmont) recorded an RBI single, while Madison Cabell (Ivor, Va./Southampton) had a hit and scored a run.  Hayley Norton (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove), Jordan Seneca (Plum, Pa./Plum) and Cheyenne McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) each had base hits.
 
Arkansas collected eight runs on nine hits.  Ashley Diaz led the Razorbacks with three hits, including a double and a homer, and drove in five runs.  Aly Manzo added a three-run double, while Sydney Parr had two hits, including a triple, and two runs.
 
The Razorbacks got on the board with three runs in the bottom of the third.  After singles by Parr and Hannah McEwen, Diaz hit the first pitch of her at-bat over the wall in left for a three-run shot.
 
Arkansas added four runs in the bottom of the fifth.  After a single and stolen base by Autumn Buczek, the Red Flash intentionally walked McEwen.  Diaz then lined a double to left to score Buczek.  After Warrick drew a walk to load the bases, Manzo cleared the bases with a double to the gap in left-center.  Arkansas led 7-0 after five innings.
 
Saint Francis cut the deficit in the top of the sixth.  Cabell hit a leadoff single up the middle before Sierra McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) reached on a dropped fly ball to right.  Kassidy Troxell (Navarre, Ohio/Perry) loaded the bases with a two-out walk.  Hoover then sent a grounder up the middle for an infield single, which scored Cabell. 
 
The Razorbacks answered with a run in the bottom of the sixth.  After a leadoff triple by Parr, Diaz singled to left to drive in Parr and extend Arkansas' lead to 8-1.
 
Saint Francis responded with two runs in the top of the seventh.  Frank hit a 1-2 pitch for a solo shot to left, with the ball just clearing the fence.  With two outs, Sierra McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) hit her own solo homer, this time on a 1-1 pitch, with the ball going over the wall in left.  However, a strikeout ended the rally.
 
The Red Flash threatened to score in the top of the fourth.  Norton beat out a grounder to shortstop for a leadoff single.  With two outs, Seneca lined a single to center to put runners on first and second.  However, a groundout ended the inning.
 
Saint Francis put runners in scoring position in the top of the fifth.  After Hoover drew a one-out walk, Cheyenne McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) sent a single through the left side of the infield.  After a fielder's choice by Frank put runners at the corners, Frank stole second to put two runners in scoring position.  A groundout to second ended the scoring threat.
