Softball Moves Into Second Nationally In Homers With Seven In Sweep Over Bryant

LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis Softball team extended its winning streak to 10 games with a sweep over Bryant on Sunday.  The Red Flash won 12-2, in six innings, in game one and 8-3 in game two.  The Red Flash is now 30-17 overall and 10-0 in conference play, while Bryant dropped to 12-25 overall and 6-6 in the NEC.
 
The Red Flash has now won 29 straight games against NEC opponents.  That is two wins away from tying Jacksonville State (2015-17) for the 10th longest conference win streak in Division I history.
 
Saint Francis hit seven homers on Sunday, with Hayley Norton (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) hitting two homers as one of six different Red Flash to homer. 
 
The Red Flash hit 13 homers this weekend to bring the season total up to 60.  That includes two players (Madison Cabell (Ivor, Va./Southampton) 13, Norton 10) with double-digit homers, six players with six or more homers and eight players with four or more.  Saint Francis is currently second in the nation in homers, trailing only Coastal Carolina's 62.
 
Norton homered four times this weekend, including two grand slams.  She hit two homers on Sunday, including a granny in game two.  She has homered in three straight games.
 
Saint Francis has now hit a grand slam in four of its last six games, including one against CCSU, one against LIU Brooklyn and one against Penn State.  SFU has hit six grand slams this season. 
 
Kassidy Troxell (Navarre, Ohio/Perry) went four-for-four in game one and had hits in both of her at-bats in game two.  Troxell has registered a hit in her last nine at-bats, including a three-for-three performance in game two against CCSU.
 
In six home games this season, the Red Flash has outscored its opponents 51-9.
 
Saint Francis got two more solid pitching performances on Sunday.  Abby Trahan (Kaplan, La./Kaplan) won her 22nd game of the season with a seven strikeout performance in game one.  Adrian Smith (Clairsville, Ohio/St. Clairsville) followed that by matching a career high with 11 strikeouts in game two.
 
The Red Flash welcomes Kent State on Tuesday for a mid-week non-conference doubleheader.  The twinbill begins at 1 p.m. at the Red Flash Softball Field.
 
Game 1
Abby Trahan (Kaplan, La./Kaplan) earned her 22nd win of the season with a complete-game performance in game one.  In six innings, she allowed two runs on five hits.  Trahan struck out seven without walking a batter.  She struck out five of the first seven batters she faced and retired 12 of the final 13 Bryant batters.
 
Logan Paul started in the circle for Bryant.  In 1.1 innings, she allowed five runs on six hits, while walking three and striking out two.  Brandi Burgin replaced Paul with one out in the second and threw 1.2 innings, giving up three runs on four hits and striking out one.  Adriana Sanchez pitched the final 2.2 innings, allowing six hits and four runs, with a walk and a strikeout.
 
Saint Francis scored 12 runs on 16 hits, including five homers by five different players.  Kassidy Troxell (Navarre, Ohio/Perry) went four-for-four with two RBI and a run.  Cheyenne McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) got two hits, including a solo homer, and scored two runs.  Madison Cabell (Ivor, Va./Southampton) collected two hits, including a solo homer, and drove in two runs.  Sierra McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) went two-for-three with a solo shot and two runs.  Jordan Frank (DuBois, Pa./DuBois Central Catholic) had two hits, including a double and a three-run homer that ended the game.
 
Bryant had two runs on five hits.  Gianna Pizzano went two-for-two with a solo homer and two runs.  Tiffany Bell had an RBI single, while Robyn Ukegawa and Helaina Michaud each had singles.
 
The Red Flash jumped out to a four-run lead in the first inning.  Cheyenne McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) led off the inning with a homer to right-center.  It was her sixth dinger of the season.  Cabell and Sierra McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) drew back-to-back walks before Taylor Hoover (Phillipsburg, Ohio/Northmont) beat out a grounder to the shortstop to load the bases.  Troxell followed with a single to right to drive in Cabell and McKee before Jordan Seneca (Plum, Pa./Plum) sent a rocket to the wall in center for a double to plate Hoover. 
 
Saint Francis added a run in the second.  Cheyenne McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) drew a walk to leadoff the inning.  Two batters later, McKee stole second and moved to third on a wild throw.  A bloop single by Cabell to left drove in McKee from third.  The Red Flash led 5-0 after two frames.
 
The Bulldogs drove in a run in the third.  Pizzano and Michaud reached on singles before Bell lined a single to left-center to drive in Pizzano and cut the SFU lead to 5-1.
 
The Red Flash answered with a run in the bottom half.  Troxell began the inning with a single to center.  Frank sent a line drive off the wall in center for a double to move pinch-runner Ashley Sheetz (Hampton Township, Pa./Hampton) to third.  Cheyenne McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) followed with a fly ball to center for a sacrifice fly to plate Sheetz and extend SFU's advantage to 6-1.
 
Saint Francis drove in two more runs on back-to-back homers in the fourth.  Norton led off the inning with a blast over the wall in left-center for her ninth homer of the season.  Cabell followed with a bomb to left. Her 13th homer of the season extended SFU's lead to 8-1.
 
Bryant added a run in the fifth.  Pizzano hit a leadoff homer to left-center that just cleared the fence to cut the Red Flash advantage to 8-2.
 
The Red Flash clinched a run-rule victory with four runs in the sixth.  Sierra McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) started the inning with a homer to dead center for a solo shot. It was McKee's seventh of the season. After singles by Mikayla Bower (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) and Troxell setup a three-run blast by Frank.  Her fourth homer of the season gave SFU a 12-2 win.
 
Game 2
Adrian Smith (Clairsville, Ohio/St. Clairsville) started game two for the Red Flash, picking up win No. 8 on the season.  Smith tied a career-high with 11 strikeouts in a complete-game effort.  In seven innings, she allowed three runs on four hits and walked two batters.  Smith struck out the side in the first and seventh innings and struck out two in the second.  She retired 10 straight batters between the second and fifth innings.
 
Colby Norris got the start for Bryant, going four innings. She gave up six runs on six hits, while striking out one and walking four.  Adriana Sanchez finished the game, going two innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on a hit and two walks.
 
The Red Flash collected eight runs on seven hits.  The biggest hit came from Hayley Norton (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove), who hit a grand slam for the second straight day.  She went two-for-four in game two.  Mikayla Bower (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) added a solo homer, while Sierra McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) had an RBI double and a run. Kassidy Troxell (Navarre, Ohio/Perry) went two-for-two, including a double and a triple, and a run.  Cheyenne McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) scored twice and drive in a run, while Jordan Frank (DuBois, Pa./DuBois Central Catholic) had a single and a run.
 
Bryant scored three runs on four hits.  Dakota Bilodeau had an RBI triple and Jessica Gradillas drove in a run.  Tiffany Bell and Gianna Pizzano each had a hit and a run.
 
The Red Flash took the lead in the bottom of the first.  Cheyenne McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) drew a leadoff walk.  McKee moved up to second on a groundout before stealing third.  Sierra McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) drove a double to the gap in right-center to plate Cheyenne.  SFU was ahead, 1-0, after one inning.
 
Bryant responded with two runs in the top of the second.  Following a walk by Robyn Ukegawa and an infield single by Pizzano, freshman Bilodeau lined a triple to the corner in right to drive in both runners.
 
Saint Francis answered with five runs in the bottom of the second.  Troxell lined a triple to right to start the inning.  Jordan Seneca (Plum, Pa./Plum) walked and stole a base before Frank worked a walk to load the bases.  Cheyenne McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) then drew a walk to score Troxell from third.  Norton hit a moon shot over the right field fence for a grand slam. Her second grand slam of the weekend, and 10th homer of the season gave SFU a 6-2 lead.
 
The Red Flash added two runs in the fifth.  After Sierra McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) reached on an error, Bower launched a 3-0 pitch over the wall in left to extend the SFU lead to 8-2.
 
Bryant drove in a run in the sixth.  Bell doubled to left to start the inning, with a groundout moving Bell to third.  A fly ball by Gradillas to right resulted in Bell scoring for a sacrifice fly.  The Red Flash lead was cut to 8-3.
