Lauren Cassano named assistant swimming coach

LORETTO, Pa. – Saint Francis swimming coach Phil Hurley has announced the addition of Lauren Cassano to his staff as an assistant coach.

"I am very excited to have Lauren join our coaching staff," said Hurley. "She will bring exceptional knowledge, experience and enthusiasm to our program. She will be a fine mentor to our swimmers and will help lead this team to future success!"

Cassano joins the Red Flash after spending the last two seasons at Allegheny College, where she helped lead the Gators to some of their top conference finishes of the last decade in the last full season in 2019-20. Allegheny's women finished third at the NCAC Championship – the highest place since 2011 – while the sixth-place finish for the Gator men was the best since 2012.

Cassano previously worked with UPMC as an aquatic therapy instructor and sports performance coach, in addition to coaching roles with PEAQ Swim Club and St. Clair Country Club.

The Venetia native was a four-time All-America honoree at Grove City College, where she was a four-time NCAA D3 Qualifier. Cassano was four-time all-conference in the Presidents Athletic Conference and a conference champion in the 100 and 200 backstroke. She holds school records in those two events in addition to the 400 medley relay.
