Scouting the Opponents
Bryant will no longer be a NEC Swimming and Diving Champion as they've won five straight but have realigned to the America East Conference so therefore a new champion will be crowned in 2023.
Last year Bryant took first with a total score of 746, followed by Central Connecticut, LIU, Wagner, Sacred Heart, Saint Francis U, Howard, St. Francis Brooklyn, Mount St. Mary's, and Merrimack.
CCSU tallied 8 total first place wins, putting them on top with the most first place wins. Bryant notched four first place wins, and Wagner tallied four top wins as well. St. Francis Brooklyn was the only other team to notch a first-place event win to round out the first place winners of the 18 total events.
Saint Francis will look to take their first NEC title since the 2013 season where they ended up winning four championships in a row from 2010-2013.Â
THE RED FLASH
Saint Francis looks to capitalize on the 6th place overall standing at the end of last year's conference Championships. The Red Flash were able to win three medals at the conclusion of the 2022 NEC Championships.Â
Last year, in the 200Â yd backstroke, seniorÂ
Amelia Laudenbach secured the bronze. Laudenbach, along with
Chloe Clemens,
Aurem Pifarre, and Amalia Bradurn finished third in the 800 freestyle relays. Lastly, senior
Jessica Rupp secured the bronze medal in the 200 fly to close out the medals for Saint Francis at the NEC's.
There will be plenty of newcomers like
Sara Turner,
Oksana Horova,
Morgan Moniz,Â
Laryssa Webster, and
Mina Nikolic who will be looking to make an impact as freshman in their first postseason tournament.
Seniors such as
Krysta Weik,
Shauna Abair,
Julia Springer,
Paige Bacigal,
Margaret Biss, and
Julia Bradford will all be looking to close out their Red Flash careers on a high note during this tournament.
