Swimming Finishes Fourth in NEC Championship Meet

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
>>The Red Flash finished the 2024 NEC Championships in fourth place with 1094.5 points. This is the team's highest placement since 2020.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Action on the last day of the meet began with 1650-yard, or mile, freestyle. Natalie Glessner (Elizabeth, Pa.) and Aurem Pifarre (Balaguer, Spain) finished third and sixth, respectively. Glessner finished with a time of 17:11.68, good for the third fastest in Saint Francis history. Pifarre clocked in at 17:27.19.

In the C-Final of the 200-yard backstroke, Baily Trettel (Slippery Rock, Pa.) and Maddie Dando (Frackville, Pa.) finished 24th and 19th overall with respective times of 2:13.73 and 2:08.29. Inde Patterson (Moon Township, Pa.) placed third in the B-Final at 2:05.45. Bridget Kurtzweil (Avon, Ohio) picked up fifth, clocking in at 2:04.46.

The Red Flash had three swimmers compete in the B-Final of the 100-yard freestyle. In the heat, Oksana Horova (Kraków, Poland) finished second, Sara Blanco (Madrid, Spain) finished fourth and Reegan Brown (Acme, Pa.) finished sixth. Horova clocked in at 53.10, Blanco at 53.38 and Brown at 53.59. In the A-Final, Anna Bernasconi (Albany, N.Y.) finished seventh with a time of 52.31.

In the 200-yard breaststroke, Morgan Vogel (Medina, Ohio) finished 22nd overall with a time of 2:31.12. Lizzie Smeltzer (Irwin, Pa.) finished third in the B-Final, clocking in at 2:24.45. Nicole López Kohlmann (Mexico City, Mexico) finished fourth with a time of 2:21.11 with Krysta Weik taking sixth at 2:22.17.

The final event of the meet was the 400-yard freestyle relay. Weik, López Kohlmann, Horova and Bernasconi finished in fourth place with a time of 3:28.91. The time lands the relay eighth fastest in team history.
