Loretto, Pa. – Saint Francis men's volleyball's Andrew Deardorff and Kyle Charles claimed Northeast Conference (NEC) weekly awards for their performances against #18 Princeton and NJIT last weekend, the conference announced on Tuesday.
The Red Flash played their fifth AVCA top-20 opponent in No. 18 Princeton and also faced NJIT in their two matches in New Jersey Jan. 24-25.
Deardorff claimed his second career First Point/NEC Player of the Week and his seventh prime performer overall after tallying 24 kills, seven aces, five blocks, and four digs between both matches. The senior outside hitter posted 12 in back-to-back matches and his seven aces bring his season total up to 13. The four blocks and aces he registered in the first match against the Tigers are new season-bests. He is now second on the team in kills with 61.
Charles earned his second First Point/NEC Men's Volleyball Rookie of the Week after totaling 57 assists, 14 digs, seven kills, three blocks, and one ace combined between the two matches. The freshman setter recorded 10 or more digs for the first time against NJIT, racking up 10. He also set a new season-best versus Princeton when he tallied six kills and a hitting percentage of .857. Charles is up to 138 assists through six matches.
Men's volleyball will play Purdue Fort Wayne and Lincoln Memorial in the Harvard Invitational hosted by Harvard University Jan. 31-Feb. 1.
