SOUTH WINDSOR, N.J. (April 17, 2010) –
Stephanie Rivera (El Paso, Texas/America's High School) (El Paso, Texas/America's HS) took a win as the Saint Francis women's tennis team fell to the Monmouth Hawks 4-1 in the consolation final at the Northeast Conference Tennis Championships on Saturday in South Windsor, N.J.
Rivera defeated MU's Jessica Slinger 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Devyn Sarver (Mount Clemens, Mich./Fraser) and
Laura Husband (Dawson, Pa./Connellsville Area) (Dawson, Pa./Connellsville Area) both lead in their matches, but did not get to finish. Sarver, at No. 4 singles, led Katie Tierney 6-3, 3-6 while Husband led 6-4, 1-5, vs. Diane Washer in the No. 6 slot.
Samantha Fulchiero (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) fell to Nicole Lippens 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, while
Abigail Ball (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) took a 6-2, 6-1 loss to Diana Ferrari in the No. 3 spot.
Caitlin Bart (Warren, Ohio/Howland) (Warren, Ohio/Howland) fell to Brittany Dupuis 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 5 flight.
In doubles action, Ball and partner
Brianna Mapes (Somerset, Pa./Shanksville) (Somerset, Pa./Shanksville) led 7-6 over Jessica Slinger and Kelly Friederich at No. 3 doubles but did not get to finish. Fulchiero and
Juliana Gustafson (Keyser, W.Va./Keyser) (Keyser, W. Va./Keyser) fell in the No. 1 spot to Tierney and Lippens, while Rivera and Sarver suffered a close 8-6 loss to Ferrari and Washer at No. 2.
