STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (Jan. 28, 2012) – The Saint Francis University women's track and field team posted a solid showing against a tough field at the Penn State National Invitational.
Jennifer Haffner led the way for Saint Francis at State College with a fifth-place finish in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:54.22. The mark is an ECAC qualifying mark and the second-best time in school history. The Red Flash 4x400-meter relay team posted a school record and an ECAC qualifying mark with a time 3:47.83.
Maura Jones (Frostburg, Md./Mountain Ridge) led off for SFU and handed to
Christy Staily (Martinsburgh, Pa./Central), who handed off to
Keishana LaRose (Brooklyn, N.Y./Acorn Community) , who posted the best split of 54 seconds before
Nicole Leach (New Enterprise, Pa./Northern Bedford) anchored the event with a leg of 57.2 seconds.
LaRose recorded a sixth-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.71 and missed out on a second-place finish by just .3 seconds. Jones recorded a seventh-place finish with a time of 1:16.83 in the 500-meters dash. The sophomore ranked third among underclassmen in the event.
In field events,
Christin Bridge (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) posted a sixth-place finish in the shot with a mark of 14.44-meter (47 feet, 4 ½ inches). The senior added a 14th-place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 15.52-meters (50 feet, 11 inches).
Alexis Hurd (Manchester, Md./North Carroll) posted a 24th-place finish in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.71, missing a personal-best time by .01. The SFU junior also posted a season-best mark in the 200-meter with a time of 25.88 and earned a 16th-place finish and took third in her heat.
Saint Francis returns to action next week at the Youngstown State National Invitational.
