Lafferty Wins Second NEC Swimmer of the Week Award

LORETTO, Pa. – Saint Francis sophomore Katie Lafferty (Bremen, Ind./Bremen) was named NEC Swimmer of the Week, announced by the conference on Tuesday, for her performance this past weekend at LIU Brooklyn. It is Lafferty's second NEC Swimmer of the Week award this season and the fourth of her career.

Lafferty won the 200 and 500-yard Freestyle events on Saturday.

The Bremen, Ind. native won the 200-yard Freestyle with a time of 1:54.19, which is also the top time in the conference this season in that event.

Lafferty claimed the 500-yard Freestyle with a pace of 5:08.68 to finish, just over 14 seconds ahead of the second place finisher.  Lafferty now owns the second-best time in the NEC this fall in the 500-yard Freestyle.

The sophomore also helped the 200-yard Medley Relay team of Lafferty, Paige McLean (Bolton, Ontario/St. Michael Catholic Secondary), Jessica Reilly and Catherine Rogers (Nokesville, Va./Seton School) to a win, combining for a time of 1:48.49.

Lafferty also helped the 400-yard Freestyle Relay squad to a second place finish in a time of 3:37.34.  That relay team also included Karell, Reilly and Alicia Tiberino (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill).

Lafferty previously won the NEC Swimmer of the Week award this season on October 20 after the Northeast Catholic Invite.

The Red Flash is off this weekend but returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 14 as it hosts Wagner for a 1 p.m. meet at the Stokes Natatorium.
