LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis swimming team welcomes Youngstown State on Saturday for a 1 p.m. meet. The Red Flash will honor
Sara Dieterich (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) and
Catherine Rogers (Nokesville, Va./Seton School) in a Senior Day ceremony.
Saint Francis enters the meet with a 7-7 record and will look to finish the regular season with a winning record for the fourth straight season. It would mark the second time in program history, with the last four-year winning span coming in 1997-98 to 2000-01.
Last weekend, the Red Flash earned its second straight road win, with a 166.5-121.5 victory at Siena. SFU placed first in 12 events, including both the 200-yard Medley and 400-yard Freestyle Relays.
Sophomore
Katie Lafferty (Bremen, Ind./Bremen) won two events, with her performance garnering NEC Swimmer of the Week honors, both from the conference and CollegeSwimming.com. It was her fourth award from the conference this season, out of nine possible weeks. She took first place in the 200-yard Freestyle (1:54.90) and 500-yard Freestyle (5:09.51). Her time in the 200-yard Freestyle ranks ninth in the NEC, while her 500-yard Freestyle time is eighth. She has two Top 10 times in the conference in each event this year.
Sophomore
Emma Karell (Norrtälje, Sweden/Täby Swim Club) claimed the top place in the 1000-yard Freestyle (10:43.17) and the 100-yard Butterfly (1:00.36). Her time in the 1000-yard Freestyle was a new career-best and is the 10th-best time in program history.
Junior
Jessie Reilly (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Upper St. Clair) picked up wins in the 50-yard Freestyle (24.88) and 100-yard Freestyle (54.57), while Rogers earned a victory in the 100-yard Breaststroke (1:05.99). Freshmen
Marisa Daly (Wallingford, Conn./Mark T. Sheehan) and
Rory O'Dell (Chapel Hill, N.C./Northwood) collected wins on Saturday. Daly won the 200-yard IM(1:54.90), while O'Dell won the 200-yard Butterfly (2:13.50).
Lafferty, junior
Paige McLean (Bolton, Ontario/St. Michael Catholic Secondary), Reilly and Rogers combined for a victory in the 200-yard Medley Relay, with a time of 1:49.09.
In the 400-yard Freestyle Relay, Karell, Lafferty, Reilly and Rogers teamed up for a time of 3:39.88 to lead the field.
The Penguins enter the meet with a 3-3 record. Last weekend, Youngstown State fell 168-129 at IUPUI. They also competed at the Butler Invitational, where they finished third out of six teams.
Sophomore Madison Aranda holds the Penguins' top time in five different events: 500 Freestyle (4:59.20), 1000 Freestyle (10:37.89), 1,650 Freestyle (17:17.04), 200 Butterfly (2:04.00) and 400 IM (4:31.20).
