LORETTO, Pa. – Saint Francis swimming junior Emma Karell (Norrtälje, Sweden/Täby Swim Club) was named NEC Swimmer of the Week on Tuesday for her performance in Saint Francis' 164-58 win over LIU Brooklyn on Saturday.

Karell was part of a relay win and earned three individual wins to help Saint Francis win 13 of 14 events on Saturday.  Saint Francis is now 7-2 in dual-meet scoring.

In the 800-yard Freestyle Relay, Karell combined with freshman Aimee Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn), freshman Karilyn Quon (Tempe, Ariz./Corona del Sol) and junior Katie Lafferty (Bremen, Ind./Bremen) to establish a new pool record, with a time of 7:52.89.  The group finished almost 37 seconds ahead of second-place.  That is over six seconds faster than the previous record, set by Ford, Demjanenko, Heintz and Young in 2010 against Mount St. Mary's.

The Sweden native posted a new SFU career-best in the 200-yard Butterfly, with a time of 2:10.50, the eighth-best in program history.  SFU earned the top three places in that event, with sophomore Rory O'Dell (Chapel Hill, N.C./Northwood) placing second (2:17.02) and freshman Meaghan Saettel (Miamisburg, Ohio/Miamisburg) placing third (2:18.94).

In the 1000-yard Freestyle, Karell recorded a time of 10:47.17, her top time of the season.  Junior Kasey Marks (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman) (11:31.42) finished second, while sophomore Marrissa Walters (Brampton, Ontario/Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School) (11:57.46) finished third.

Karell also won the 200-yard Breaststroke, touching the wall in 2:27.57.

The Red Flash returns to action on Saturday, November 12 at Wagner for a 1 p.m. meet.
