Does your current profession relate to your major? If not, why did you decide to go a different route?
My current profession involves education, but my Masters Degree in Academic Advising is specifically aligned with my current profession. During my time at SFU, I truly benefited from the support of the Student-Athlete Development office, which influenced me to want to provided that same fundamental support to student-athletes.
How was the job search process for you? Any advice for student-athletes currently on the job hunt?
When searching for a job it is important to reach out and let others in and outside of your job field to know what your professional goals are, because you never know who can help you in the future. If you interview with a prospective employer and do not get hired, always reach out to the employer and ask for feedback. The feedback that they provide may just help you ace your
next interview.
What is your favorite part of your job and why?
My favorite part of my job is helping student-athletes realize their full academic and professional potential and providing them with the support and encouragement throughout the process.
What is something you wish you could have done that you didn't do when you were at Saint Francis? Or what is something you would have done differently?
I wish that I had taken more advantage of the career development workshops and other available campus resources.
What did you do in the year immediately after graduating?
After I graduated, I moved to Manhattan, Kansas to pursue a master's degree from Kansas State University and to work as a Graduate Assistant Academic Counselor for the K-State football team.
What is one class you recommend that student-athletes should take and why?
Any elective course that is offered abroad. As a student-athlete, I was fortunate to find a study abroad trip that that was compatible with my athletic schedule. It was an incredible experience!
How did being a student-athlete help you in your career?
My experience as a student-athlete helps me empathize with the challenges that student-athletes are faced with on a daily basis and allows me to help provide academic and moral support throughout the process.
What is the single most important piece of advice you would give student-athletes?
Even though being a student-athlete is incredibly time consuming, challenge yourself to get involved in new organizations or clubs on campus. The insight gained from those experiences will influence your future.
What is your favorite memory from Saint Francis?
My favorite memories from my time at SFU are the seemingly insignificant moments (at the time) that were spent laughing with my teammates while traveling or in-between practices. In hindsight sight, those little moments and the friendships that I made are what made it all worth it.
